It's hard to believe that our little Bubs is already two! How in the world did that happen??
My husband has ALWAYS been a huge fan of Toy Story. I mean, who isn't?? This party theme was 'two' good to pass on! Here we go, Two Infinity and Beyond!
I love a good theme and love to go all out! I know lots of conversations are all about "Why do you need to do that?", "Birthdays are out of control these days.", "Just give them pizza and let them play outside."
Don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with that! For me, party planning fills my cup. It brings me joy to make the food match the theme, to set up decorations, and plan out themed activities the kids can participate in. I'm not doing it for "the 'gram", for other parents to be "impressed" (or judgmental)... I'm honestly doing it for me! And so my kiddo can look back one day and be like "man, that was cool that my mom did that for me".
Invitation

I made our invitations (yes I can make yours too - check out Life Design Creative Studio) and sent them via text to parents of Bubs' friends. He is only two after all, so we invited his daycare friends, his cousins, and a couple family friends' kids. We also had grandparents there too - obviously they couldn't miss out!
Food
The party was 3-5pm so we had snacks along with burgers ang hotdogs. It was very casual, but we knew there would be adults so we wanted to offer something with a little substance.
Like I said, I like to make the food match the theme. I make sure to make labels for the food with their "themed names" to add to the fun of it!
For this party, we had:
UFOs: burgers
Rockets: hotdogs
Juice: rocket fuel
Licorice: laser beams
Fruit & veg cut into stars: shooting stars
Popcorn twists: Moon rocks
Chips: Dark matter
It just adds a little "extra" and I'm all for extra, haha.
Activities
Remembering this was a birthday for a two year old, but also that he'd have some older kids attending, I had to plan accordingly. I knew we'd have lots to do just playing in our backyard. We've got a great playhouse that we recently redid, a pool, sandbox, and mud kitchen. We also have the use of a commercial bouncy castle anytime we want as my in-laws purchased one years ago and it's come in handy so many times!
Although that was tons to keep the kids busy, I wanted to have one planned activity. I ended up getting a bunch of water guns from the dollar store, some fabric dye and white t-shirts (on sale!) from Michaels, and some plastic table cloths as a backdrop. We used the water guns to "tie-dye" t-shirts with our "laser beams". Don't worry, Hubs made sure to tell me that Buzz Lightyear doesn't shoot a gun, he shoots lasers, so the "guns" were now "lasers" for the purpose of this event.
I was fully prepared for a disaster, lol, but the activity went so well! The dyed shirts went into plastic zip-top bags with the kiddo's names on them, and went home at the end of the party with their treat bags. It couldn't have gone better, and the kids loved it!
Treat Bags

I personally detest treat bags filled with cheap plastic toys that end up in the garbage. I also would prefer to not get a treat bag stuffed with sugar. I ended up putting the following in the treat bags to send home with the kids:
Pringles cans (the snack sized ones) with themed labels (obviously, haha)
Glow stick
Rocket candy (only two!)
A freezie
Bubbles
Buzz Lightyear stickers
Easy and not going to end up in the garbage!
Two Infinity and Beyond
Overall, we had an awesome day! We did get a torrential downpour halfway through the party, but we moved things inside while it passed through. The sun came back out, and the kids could care less it was a little wet outside!
I'm curious, are you an "extra" party planner, or a "simplicity is key" kinda parent?
