Happy *insert the day of the week*! Celebrating Life's Little Moments

It's our first year of really doing the things when it comes to holidays, so we're going all in! I'm all about celebrating life's little moments and I think everyday is an opportunity to celebrate and make it special - why not!
Don't get me wrong though, this doesn't mean dishing out tons of money (or any at all), buying gifts and treats, etc. You can make any day special with even the littlest of touches (and effort!).
Take Bub's half-birthday for example. I got a lot of feedback (I won't say "backlash", but some might see it that way), questioning the celebration. Asking "why", saying "no one else does that", "I hope it doesn't become normal to give gifts and spoil him", blah, blah, blah.
Here's the thing. When he grows up, he's going to have those memories. He'll have them forever! No, we're not spending tons of money on these things. No, we're not buying gifts all the time. And no, he's not going to end up spoiled, but he's going to end up loved and knowing that every single day is a reason to be positive, grateful, and celebrate the sun rising.
Okay, maybe a little cheesy, but you're catching my drift.

For Bub's half-birthday, I bought a banner from the dollar store (that I'll reuse each year), pulled out balloons from our "party bin" downstairs, printed off and coloured a "1 1/2" sign, and bought a cupcake for him. We made individual pizzas for supper and he had the best time! That's it! SO simple, but SO impactful when he's growing up and storing those core memories.
This Valentine's Day we made sure to incorporate small gestures of love all throughout the day.
We started with his normal breakfast, but with a flare - pancakes cut with cookie cutters into "I *heart* U" and berries in a silicone heart cup. He took Valentine's to his daycare friends and came home to a basket from us. In the basket: a dollar store Valentine's Day book, snacks already in our pantry, and a couple cheap toys from the dollar store that I had bought already and he was going to get anyway (Jenga-style stacking blocks, self-inflating balloons, and a pouch for his markers in the car). We coloured a Valetine's Day picture together while supper was in the oven - which was heart-shaped potatoes and beets. We made brownies together after and we cut them into "I *heart* U" shapes and had dessert together. Easy-peasy, and all stuff we had or were able to purchase for mere dollars and cents.
The best part though, was that it took only a teeny-tiny bit more energy/effort than I would have spent anyway!
I know it's not for everyone, but we are fully embracing the stage of life we're in where we are able to do these things with Bubs. We will never regret spending this time together making these memories!
So embrace the chaos of the day, be grateful for the moments we have, and gosh-darnit, celebrate that it's another day!
Happy *insert day of the week*!
