Halloween Sensory Fun!

This is the first year we have a "functioning" toddler for Halloween. Last year, we had a crying skeleton potato-baby (this is what we called Bubs as a newborn - a potato!). This was our attempt at getting a nice Halloween photo last year... at least we have the memories, haha!

This year I jumped right in with trying to come up with some level-appropriate sensory activities for Bubs to try around Halloween. First up, bless our souls: rice sensory bin!

I used just regular white long-grain rice, mixed it with 1tsp white vinegar, and about 10 drops of food colouring. Gel food colouring is supposed to work a little bit better, but we're all about using what we have, and not going broke doing so! I don't know, I was satisfied with the outcome, and he really doesn't care that much!

I put this all in a Ziploc bag, mixed it up, and voila! Even Bubs got in on the mixing and shaking!

Dump it out on a cookie sheet and let it dry. By the time I was done mixing my fourth batch, the first had already dried, but I left mine out overnight to dissipate some of the vinegar smell. Then I dumped it all in a plastic bin I had already in the kitchen, tossed in some Halloween erasers and eyeballs from the dollar store and we were set!

We used a muffin tin, measuring scoops, bowls and cups to play, mix, and throw pieces all over! haha

Quick Tip: I laid down a clear plastic table cover that I picked up at the dollar store for us to play on. This made clean up so easy! I've also seen mamas put their toddler in a larger plastic bin, or an inflatable pool to contain the mess. Genius!

Next up: Spaghetti and eyeballs... stay tuned!
